Aburn Plainsman Park Upgrades
Auburn Athletics finalized plans for the previously approved $30 million Plainsman Park renovation project that began the summer of 2023. The renovations are highlighted by the additions of three new premium experiences – the Hall of Fame Club, First Base Club, and Home Plate Club, as well as a unique general admission space atop the War Eagle Wall in left field.
-
- Location: Auburn University, Auburn, AL
- Project Size: 35,000 SF
- Cost: $30,000,000
- Facility Type: Higher Education / Sports & Recreation
- Owner: Auburn University
- Services: Electrical and Mechanical Engineer

The project will also enhance the popular student experience in right center field through the addition of new elevated and tiered standing room spaces, while also further expanding in-stadium concourse spaces to provide expanded standing room and fan capacity. Additionally, new and improved team spaces such as the Tim Hudson Locker Room, bullpen, weight room, team meeting room, and coaches’ offices will help provide a premier student-athlete experience.
The First Base Club area includes reconfiguration and upgrade to the existing field level concession area and restrooms. A new concession area will be added to the concourse level and a club space including private suites will be part of the upper-level improvements. The electrical distribution and support for the First Base Club will be a 480-volt distribution system transformed down to 208Y120 volt within the renovated area. The cooling will be provided by campus chilled water (CHW) from an existing central utility plant.
The Player Performance Facility will consist of an open-air dining area, plus enclosed spaces for kitchen and food preparation, restrooms, and support spaces (i.e., storage, custodial, mechanical). The existing electrical distribution will be evaluated for electrical and physical capacity to support the new addition. The open-air dining area will be heated and ventilated only (no mechanical cooling). Heating will be provided by natural gas radiant heaters. Natural ventilation will be utilized and high-volume, low-speed (HVLS) fans will assist with airflow.
The Green Monster Terrace is an open deck area with a restroom and concession area. A new stair tower and elevator will be added for access and egress. A concession area and restrooms will be added for the fans. The existing electrical distribution in the batting cage area will be reviewed, evaluated and options for possibly relocating the electrical services considered. There are several feeders in junction boxes that support the existing video board and associated equipment in the outfield located in this general area. These boxes may need to be relocated. The Green Monster Terrace consists of three levels with dissimilar ventilation, load, and air class requirements per level. The 1st floor Pitching Lab and 2nd floor Concessions will be conditioned by separate split-system DX heat pumps with auxiliary electric heat. Outside air will be ducted to the return airstreams of each system to meet ventilation requirements.
An existing concessions area near Donahue Street will be converted to an Umpire Lounge. The Umpire Lounge AHU will be single-zone, constant volume, and 100% outside air (OA) with exhaust air energy recovery to satisfy ventilation requirements for sports locker rooms, toilet rooms, and showers.
