The addition includes general office space and classroom/training functions in a controlled access secure environment. The Open Office spaces (one on each floor) are Secure Areas with “closed storage” classification as defined by ICD/ICS 705. These spaces are physically separate from the existing Secure Areas in B614 but connect to the existing security systems (IDS, ACS and CCTV) located within the existing building. The Secure Area on the second floor has a secondary controlled access area within the Secure Area perimeter that is constructed to the same criteria to separate the area from the primary Secure Area and adjacent uncontrolled areas. First and second floor telecommunication rooms are provided in areas with a raised access floor to provide under floor distribution of Special Access (SAP), secure (SIPR), and nonsecure (NIPR) data connectivity.
The utility infrastructure required to service the new building for water, power, telecom, fire protection and sanitary required coordination with base wide utility services so that there would be no interruption of service for any of the utilities. The design team worked closely with base public works so that all required building services were not only sized and designed efficiently but also that the general contractor and their subcontractors installed all services correctly. This required a thorough understanding and documentation of existing conditions to help eliminate any unknown conditions or conflicts with the new facility and the tie-in to the existing infrastructure.
To meet the Government’s desired construction schedule, the facility was subdivided into a fast-track site development package and a building design package. The fast-track site development package included the demolition and design of primary and secondary electrical service, and outside plant telecommunication lines and a building package. This project is slated to achieve LEED Silver certification.
