BRAC MCP Fitness Center
This 11,760 SF satellite Fitness Center supplements the existing fitness center facilities at Eglin AFB and replaces two existing bathhouses. The project was authorized to meet the needs of the additional BRAC population on base.

The facility consists of separate fitness and cardio exercise areas for physical training activities and field house activities that include toilet rooms, shower rooms and locker rooms for both men and women. The project is immediately adjacent to a multi-use recreation area and provides close access to ball fields, a track and other functions that need the support services of this facility. These functions have realized significant benefits from having close access to the “Field House”. The facility meets all accessibility requirements ensuring all persons have full, unimpeded use of the facility, including wounded or transitioning veterans.
Project objectives were to provide the Eglin AFB mission with an energy-efficient facility with low operating costs and durability with the lowest maintenance possible. The design s focused on LEED Silver requirements for energy efficiency and sustainability. Energy-conserving / sustainable features include increased wall and roof insulation; specialized exterior envelope details to reduce air infiltration; and a high-performance air and water barrier. Sustainable HVAC system design features include significant design adjustments to incorporate high-efficiency mechanical components and exhaust-air heat recovery. The project utilizes the first geothermal HVAC system used on a non-residential facility at Eglin AFB.
The project scope includes site work and extension of utility systems. Sustainable site features included the utilization of xeriscape landscape design and the retention of large areas natural, undisturbed green areas.
The project received LEED “Silver” Certification and was very close to achieving LEED “Gold” Certification.
